About me

I'm often asked how I came to be a beekeeper. Well, it all began with an addiction to honey. I can't seem to get enough of the stuff  - I start everyday with a teaspoon of raw honey and end most nights with a mug of warm milk and honey. In between I'll smear it on toast, swirl it into porridge, drizzle it onto yogurt, spoon into tea or literally just eat it straight out the jar.

But my love of honey never really extended to bees until about four years ago when I started to hear more about the Colony Collapse Disorder and how our honey bees are under increasing threat. The more I found out the more passionate I became. I started to bore my friends with all the amazing bee facts I learnt from articles I read and programmes I watched. I also discovered that more and more city and town dwellers were setting up hives in their gardens and roof terraces. So, in 2011 I decided to join the urban beekeeping ranks. I enlisted myself on a local beekeeping course, bought a Beehaus, a bee suit and some tools. I was armed and ready to give a colony a home and begin my beekeeping adventure.

Apart from an amateur beekeeper, my day job is as a journalist/editor for design and technology magazine DEVELOP3D. I'm also a runner, keen baker and brand new mum.
